Real Wedding: A Modern Twist on Fall Colors

It’s hard for a planner to say that she has a favorite wedding. Almost every wedding is a favorite for some reason or another. But I think Nikki and Wade win the award for my favorite color palette of 2022.

Designing this wedding with Nikki was so much fun. Our inspiration was to blend the fall classics with what we called “Mermaid colors,” meaning shades of blue to green – teal, emerald, and everything in between. Bridesmaids were dressed in these gorgeous hues of green, while we brought in orange, peach, and lavender into the flowers.

For the tables Nikki loved these stunning blue-green satin linens, which we paired with orange goblets and white and gold accents in the plates and flatware. The final touch was to add in more touches of orange, peach, and lavender with the flowers and candles.

When wedding day came around, the wind was blowing fiercely. We had to make the dreaded decision to put the walls up on the tent, but as a compromise we only did 3 sides with walls. This left the reception space open to the courtyard and porch area of Ravenswood mansion, which we liked because it kept a cozy feel to the space without separating the reception from the bar and food.

No matter how much you plan, wedding days are filled we surprises, and this day was no different. The wind was blowing so hard that it was blowing over our arch all morning, which was kind of a shock because it was an extremely sturdy, heavy arch. That wind was so bad that I couldn’t even keep the arch standing long enough to add flowers to it. Luckily, the wind was predicted to stop at 4:00, right before our ceremony started. So, using my most creative floristry skills, I designed that arch lying flat on the ground. It isn’t a method that I would recommend for a typical flower installation, but it got the job done. We stood the arch up right before the ceremony and prayed that it wasn’t about to fall off as we did so. But I think it turned out great!

Even when a few little things go wrong, it’s still possible to have a fantastic day, and I think this one turned out to be amazing. Guests loved the easy-going venue and the fun DJ, and the fall color palette was a winner for sure.
