Last winter Kelsey Gray Events teamed up with J Mikado Photography to put together this awesome styled shoot, and I’m finally getting around to sharing the pictures!
I don’t have a ton of free time to participate in styled shoots, but I do love them for several reasons. The first reason is that I get to experiment with new designs. Weddings these days are blush and white, blush and white, over and over. As much as I love these soft, delicate weddings, I also love working with some COLOR! In this shoot I was able to design with bold reds and purples to create something different from any wedding I’ve done before.
The second reason that I love styled shoots is that I get to meet and work with new vendors. I’m hesitant to recommend a vendor that I’ve never worked with to my brides, but working with a vendor on a styled shoot gives me a chance to see their work and form that trusting relationship. For this shoot, I worked with BBJ linen for the first time, and let me tell you, now I’m in love!
BBJ provided this gorgeous purple linen with gold sparkly undertone. They mailed the linen to straight to my front door, fully pressed and ready to go. After the shoot was over I just had to bag up the linen and drop it off at my local UPS store. SO simple! This particular shoot was so much fun, and I owe a lot of that to my lovely photographer, Jackie at J Mikado Photography. Jackie owns her own wedding photography business, and we LOVE to work together. She’s great at getting me to lighten up when she’s taking my photos (I kind of hate having my picture taken, so I always come off so stiff and unhappy looking, but Jackie was able to give me tips to snap me out of that), and she always gets those great detail shots of my flowers, which are always my favorite photos!
