If you know me at all, you know that I like COLOR. I like bold designs that make a statement that your guest will remember forever. Color can be elegant. Color can be classy. Nothing more so than purple, the color of royalty. Since purple was a difficult dye to come by in history, only the wealthy could afford purple fabric for their wardrobe. We still unconsciously associate purple with wealth, and by that principle you can trick the eye into believing that you spent much more on your wedding flowers, even though they are no more expensive than any other color flower.
As you can imagine, I had a blast designing the flowers for Alex & John’s wedding at the Barn at Sycamore Farms. The design used greenery and white flowers with touches of purple in the flowers, napkins, and bridesmaid dresses.
Alex & John’s wedding was one of those unfortunate COVID-19 delays, but it turned out to be a blessing in that it allowed us to splurge on these gorgeous purple dahlias, which never would have been available at their original date.
Other flowers in the design included deep purple/wine ranunculus, white roses, white veronica, and Italian ruscus and ivy greenery.
Many brides request garlands, and I agree that they are stunning. Yet even though stem for stem a piece of greenery is cheaper than a flower, an entire garland of greenery turns out to be much more costly than a traditional low to medium centerpiece. For an average 8-foot table, just think about how many more stems are needed for a garland rather than a small centerpiece! My suggestion to save money on wedding flowers is to order a garland as a statement piece for the head table, then do traditional centerpieces on remaining guest tables. This is what we did for Alex & John’s wedding, and it couldn’t have worked out better.
They ended the day with my favorite get-away vehicle of all time. Seriously, this same style farm truck is featured in some of my favorite farmhouse Christmas decorations, so I’m in love with it’s use for their wedding!
Congrats to Alex and John and thank you for allowing me to take part in this special day!
